What's ivory, brown, & green all over?
Inexplicably, the entirety of what I packed for three months of living-from-a-suitcase, without a home, due to a nightmarish NYC neighbor...
Welcome to CRACD (Clothing Recs & Advice from a Clothing Designer). I plan to help you shop better, and share some of what I love about quality clothing and how to wear it. I’m focused on designer—usually secondhand—vintage, and of course I wear my own brand, Villeine, quite often. :)
Currently, I’m under displaced circumstances originating from a deluded and enraged downstairs neighbor. His harassment over “noise complaints” (us walking, living, or dropping something in the apartment) escalated to screaming threats at our front door. Following this experience, I packed my bags for an uncertain future. My husband, Ryan, and I had looked for places in Brooklyn in the rush to leave the apartment we had spent less than forty days in to no avail. Harkening to the unique chance the pandemic allowed us, when we stayed with family in Oregon for three months, we’ve decided to again stay with/at friends’, family, and the occasional airbnb for an undetermined amount of time (three months is an estimate) until we can catch our breath, save a little $, and reevaluate next steps.
I was, and still am, second guessing my desire to live in New York after all this; a city I’ve lived in for seven years after moving from Portland, Oregon, in 2016. Regardless of what comes next, rush decisions needed to be made for what to have on hand (out of storage) during this time away from having a home. I process moods, memories and future considerations in tandem with what’s on my body; so why not document this weird time with a journal outfit series? Shopping recs included!
Somehow in the scuffle, it seems all the clothing I brought is in the same color scheme lol. But let’s kick off with the first (documented) few outfits where I’m attempting to make the most out of ivory, brown, & green…more navy to come. This series comes to you from my friend Taylor’s apartment in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
Highlighted: I wear my secondhand MaxMara linen check weave blazer all spring/summer, so I’ve linked some comparable options that are all vintage and extremely affordable. Below are also links to other pieces I’m wearing, or ones that are similar.
